electromagnetic fields

The influence of electromagnetic fields

Everywhere you go you have radiation around you, this can come from the sun's rays shining on you, from your telephone or from transmission towers. An electromagnetic field is created when electricity and wireless communications are generated or used, for example. The electromagnetic field is the field that covers all of space, with the magnetic field perpendicular to it. The different types of radiation are divided into two categories: 'non-ionizing' and 'ionizing' - better known as 'radioactive radiation'.

Health complaints due to electro-sensitivity

Some people get complaints such as headaches, muscle pain and/or joint pain, the Knowledge Platform on Electromagnetic Fields writes about this being called electro-sensitivity. Other complaints include heart arrhythmia, skin problems, fatigue and difficulty concentrating. Many people do not experience these complaints, but it may be wise to reduce your exposure.

Tips against electromagnetic radiation

  • Get as far away from electromagnetic sources as possible. Devices such as microwaves, wireless routers and electrical appliances give off radiation, the further away you are from them the less you are exposed to radiation.

  • Reduce your wireless usage: limit the use of wireless devices such as your cell phone, tablets and laptops. If possible, you can also use an Internet cable instead of WiFi.

  • Turn on airplane mode: when you are not using your phone, you can turn on airplane mode to reduce electromagnetic radiations

  • Cables instead of wireless: wired headphones or earbuds are a better choice when it comes to radiation. You can also use a cable for other accessories such as a keyboard.

  • Reduce sleep: while you sleep, turn off appliances and make sure you have no/as few electrical devices in your bedroom as possible.

  • Shielding: metal or special coatings provide protection from radiation. For example, special paint or certain curtains.

Sometimes escaping exposure completely is not an option, but you have some control in reducing your exposure!
