What is omega 3?

Omega 3 is a group of polyunsaturated fatty acids including the fish fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA have health-supporting effects. For instance, these fatty acids are good for the heart *.

DHA is also good for the brain**, brain function** and vision**. Taken by the mother, DHA is an important building block for the brain of the foetus and of breastfed infants***. It also contributes to proper eye development in the foetus and in breastfed infants***.

This supplement contains 1200 mg of fish oil per capsule from wild fish from Scandinavia. Of this, 550 mg consists of the omega 3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and 275 mg of the omega 3 fatty acid eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).

Also present in this supplement is 10 mcg (400 I.E.) of vitamin D in the easily absorbed form cholecalciferol. This is 200% of the reference intake (RI).

The omega 3 oil is rich in natural omega-3 fatty acids, and is free of heavy metals (these are laboratory tested at each production), contains no antibiotics and no hormones. It is made from 100% wild Arctic cod, sustainably caught in northern Norway. This fish oil has a low oxidation rate which prevents belching and contains omega-3 fatty acids in their natural triglyceride form for better absorption in the body. In addition, cod oil is odorless when processed.
