Why a Testosterone test?
The hormone testosterone is important for building and maintaining muscle mass, among other things. Testosterone also plays a role in libido and both fat regulation and fat storage in our body. Do you notice a decrease in muscle mass, decreased libido or that you are gaining weight faster than you are used to? With this testosterone test you can easily and quickly check your testosterone level yourself and signal a possible testosterone deficiency.
During the half-hour consultation, one of our therapists will discuss the results with you and personalized advice on how you can maintain or improve a good testosterone level.
What is the function of testosterone?
Testosterone the male sex hormone known to influence the development of male sexual characteristics. In later life, testosterone is very important for your muscles, bones, skin, brain and prostate. Testosterone regulates fat regulation and storage, and blood sugar and blood pressure, among other things. It also stimulates the production of bone marrow and testosterone affects bone strength (bone density) and muscle growth. Furthermore, the hormone affects erection quality, prostate function and sperm production. Testosterone is essential for libido. Testosterone also plays a role in (preventing) depression. Men over 35 experience a slow decline in testosterone levels. If testosterone levels drop too quickly, symptoms such as fatigue, sleep problems, osteoporosis, erectile dysfunction, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome and loss of muscle strength can occur.
When is a testosterone test useful?
Several symptoms can indicate a testosterone deficiency. If you have persistent symptoms such as fatigue, lethargy, a decreased libido or problems with erection it could be related to low testosterone levels. Reduced levels can also affect muscle growth and the amount of body fat. Testosterone and muscle mass are linked. If you are losing muscle mass while exercising as much as before or doing strength training fanatically and muscle growth is lagging, a testosterone test can reveal whether this is due to low testosterone levels. A deficiency can also manifest itself in rapid weight gain or difficulty losing weight. This has to do with the fact that testosterone stimulates the metabolism and, as a result, the body consumes more energy, which helps burn fat.
If you suffer from one or more of these symptoms, low testosterone levels may be the cause. A testosterone test will show whether there is a testosterone deficiency.
The result of a testosterone test
The result of this test provides an insight into your current testosterone level. The result also provides information on what a healthy testosterone level is and what your result means. You will then receive advice on how to maintain a good testosterone level or how to improve a value outside the optimal range in a natural way.
