When you think of a DNA test, do you also think of movies investigating a crime? Or in your experience is such a test only useful to know to which relatives you are or are not related and to create a beautiful family tree? Nothing could be further from the truth! In this blog you will read more about the benefits of a DNA test for your health and how you can make the most beneficial use of its results!
Why a DNA test?
With a DNA test (DNA Liver Passport) it is possible to identify which medicines, herbs or supplements you react well or not so well to and what you are or are not predisposed to. By adapting your lifestyle to these insights it is possible to experience more energy, more balance, more peace and less (vague) complaints!
Benefits of a DNA test
A DNA test will give you insight into the following, among other things:
- Which medications you react abnormally to
- Which nutrients/supplements you absorb well and which ones not so well
- How your hormone breaks down
- How your body breaks down heavy metals
- How your histamine breaks down
What exactly is DNA?
DNA is the abbreviation for Deoxyribonucleic Acid and is the main carrier of hereditary information in the body, stored in the genes. When a cell divides, the DNA is copied and the new cell then receives a copy of the genes from the original cell.
The DNA, and thus the hereditary information, is identical in all of a person's body cells. This allows the DNA in cells from cheek mucosa to be compared with DNA obtained from other body cells, for example from blood, saliva, semen, hair, muscle, bone or teeth. This is practical because cheek mucosa is easy to collect and for this reason is the usual reference material for comparative DNA testing.
Is DNA heritable?
DNA inherits from parents to children. As a result, the DNA of parents and that of their children have many similarities between them. DNA research has made major breakthroughs in the world that we did not even think possible at first. For example, DNA kinship testing is being used to solve major crimes and to prove paternity, for example.
Your DNA is the same from the day you were born until your last.
DNA and your health
Your genes contain an awful lot of useful information that you can use to improve your lifestyle and health. They explain differences between individuals in areas such as nutrition, sports, biological aging and metabolism.
It may seem as if a particular predisposition gives you that particular genetic advantage or disadvantage forever. This is true, but you can influence it with lifestyle changes.
If, for example, the test shows that your vitamin D is absorbed more easily than average and you are always indoors and don't go out in the sun, then of course your vitamin D levels may still be too low. And this is even though you have a genetic advantage. The difference is that with a normal lifestyle you are less likely to be deficient than the average person.
Or if you see that you are not predisposed to obesity but you get junk food every day and drink a lot of soda with it, you too can become overweight. Also, predisposition to obesity need not be an excuse for people who are overweight, because with lifestyle factors that affect your health negatively or positively, even with that DNA profile, you don't have to become overweight. In fact, you can then make adjustments on your diet, exercise, behavior and nutritional supplements, among other things, and this wins out over genetic predisposition, also known as predisposition.
Taking DNA test
To give you insight into your DNA profile, we offer a DNA test. Whereas other DNA tests often look at pathologies related to heredity, this test only looks at lifestyle genes.
The DNA test is assessed in a certified European laboratory (Scandinavia) for a reliable result. This is because stricter privacy laws apply here than in America, where many other parties send the tests. Big data is unprecedentedly popular; some companies look at thousands of genes with no relevance to the report and even sell them on to other parties. So with our DNA test, this is not the case!

How does a DNA test work?
The Nutri-Gene pro DNA lifestyle test is a self-test that you can easily and quickly take at home. After your order, you will receive the DNA test kit at home. You only need to take a sample of cheek slime with a kind of cotton swab and send it via the return envelope. Six weeks after sending your sample, you will receive the results.
Because we want you to be able to make the best use of the results you receive, we offer a one-hour consultation during which you will receive practical tips on how to adapt your lifestyle to your DNA. You can also ask all your questions and the therapist will look at any complaints you may have.
Your DNA results will always be up to date; ideal for reviewing the book that comes with it (worth 39 euros) every now and then.
